JERKY TIME

Well a few weeks ago we shot a lot of deer and we either made it into jerky or we ground it up. We will be making a lot of different flavours. But if we did not have this jerky slicer we would not be making that much jerky. It is good that we have the grinder too because we used to use a hand grinder and that was a lot of work. Come over some time and try some.

THE BIG BAD QUESTION - WHAT'S FOR LUNCH?

Today we were all wondering what was for lunch. Mom had not thought much about it until that moment. Remembering that there was wild turkey from last year , we pulled that out. We made wild rice soup with wild turkey. It was good! Here's how we made it: 1/2 onion, chopped; 2 carrots, peeled and chopped; 1/2 stick of butter; about 2 cups of cooked turkey; 1 1/2 cups of wild rice; 7-8 cups of chicken broth; salt and white pepper to taste. First, saute the onion and carrot in butter. When they are tender add the other ingredients and cook until done.

A FAMILY TRADITION: BACON WRAPPED DOVE BREAST

Every year, after we go dove hunting, we make our favorite dove recipe; bacon wrapped dove breast. This year all of us kids went with dad. We went out three times and brought home nineteen doves all together . First, we salted and peppered the breast meat after they were cut from the bone. Then we wrapped them, along with a small piece of jalapeno, with bacon. We grilled them on the outside grill until done. We look forward to this every year. We like the eating and the hunting.
